Michele Bowman gave us all a special Christmas treat with her holiday EP, It’s Not Christmas Without You. Her whimsical vocals are truly a delight to the ears. Jazz and Christmas tunes? Those are a few of my favorite things. Speaking of favorite things, Bowman playfully exercised creative license with the lyrics of the holiday hit, “My Favorite Things”. The warm and flirtatious tone of her vocals in contrast with the smooth midnight velvet groove of the musicians, is a winning combination.
The title song, “It’s Not Christmas Without You” is an original from Bowman. This bright morning jazz track captures the spirit of love during this season. This song also evokes a tableau of an early Christmas morning, in a spacious rustic chic country kitchen, with a grand window that entices one to gaze upon the view of a snow covered farm as the warmth from that first sip of coffee begins to awaken the senses and the aroma of buttermilk biscuits gradually fills the air. Yes, it’s just like that.
While “Christmas Time is Here” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” were already some of my favorite Christmas songs, the sprinkle of Bowman’s signature cinnamon sugar musical style, made me love them even more.
