Like many genres in music, there are different layers and levels within that genre. You see that often in the world of Christian hip hop/rap. A genre that is often misunderstood on many sides and under appreciated. Mister ATL gives us a different experience inside of that world on his new project Love, Life and Aquarius. We hear about his testimony, his journey through life and his celebration of love and marriage.
“Kut Klose” has that smooth 80s R&B with sprinkles of the afro futuristic sound as well. I look at it as an introduction to the project, Love, Life and Aquarius, as well as more insight into the artist himself, Mister ATL. Make no mistake, his love for God is still on display throughout this project.
“Vows” (feat. Kim D) and “The World” celebrate love and more specifically marriage. These tracks have elements of 90s slow jams. In addition to the celebration of love and marriage, “Beauty” celebrates women beyond their bodies. This is refreshing to hear when the world of hip hop and r&b can be misogynistic at times. I also love the neo soul vibe of this track too.
“Born Sinner” is another hot track that shares a great testimony. Lastly, “Heavens Groove” (feat. D. HALL) is a classic fresh to def hip hop track. Definitely a nice summer groove- safe to blast at your church picnic, but fly enough to blast as you’re cruising down the block in the drop top (yeah I rap too- KnowTORIous-not really).
